EYE PROBLEMS AND SOLUTION IN HOMEOPATHY

- By Dr. Mary Alphonse

  • The phrase that eyes are the windows to the soul is rightly said, in that you can understand a person's emotions and sometimes thoughts by looking into his or her eyes.
  • Eyes are no doubt your windows to the world. You perceive up to 80% of all impressions by means of your sight.
  • Your vision perhaps being the most important of all your five senses, it’s essential that you take ample care of it.

How Normal Eye Works...?

The eye is the main organ of the visual system turning the images you see into electric signals which are then carried via the optic nerve to the brain.

  • When light hits the retina (a light-sensitive layer of tissue at the back of the eye), special cells called photoreceptors turn the light into electrical signals. These electrical signals travel from the retina through the optic nerve to the brain. Then the brain turns the signals into the images you see.
  • Hence any disorder affecting the vision also affects your perceptions of the outer world be it learning through seeing, reading, recognizing and perceiving facial emotions, spotting dangers, etc.
  • Good vision is always critical and essential for doing your day to day activities seamlessly. Vision disturbances impact your ability to work and care for yourself and others. It is very important to take care of your eyesight.

What are the Common Adult Vision Problems...?

  • Refractive Errors
  • Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)
  • Cataract
  • Diabetic Retinopathy
  • Glaucoma
  • Amblyopia
  • Strabismus

What are the Common Childhood Vision Problems...?

  • Refractive errors
  • Strabismus (crossed eye)
  • Amblyopia (lazy eye)
  • Glaucoma

What are Refractive Errors...?

Refractive error means the shape of your eye is not bending light correctly to fall on retina, resulting in a blurred image. There is lack of sharpness of vision causing an inability to see fine details.

The most common vision problems in refractive errors are :

  • Myopia (nearsightedness)
  • Hyperopia (farsightedness)
  • Presbyopia
  • Astigmatism

What is Myopia?

  • Nearsightedness (called myopia) is when you can see clearly up close but blurry in the distance.

  • Myopia is usually inherited and often discovered in childhood.

  • Myopia often progresses throughout the teenage years when the body is growing rapidly.

What is Hyperopia?

  • Farsightedness (called hyperopia) is when you can see clearly in the distance but blurry up close.
  • Hyperopia can also be inherited.
  • Children often have hyperopia, which may lessen in adulthood.

  • In mild hyperopia, distance vision is clear while near vision is blurry. In more advanced hyperopia, vision can be blurred at all distances.

What is Presbyopia?

  • If you are older than 40 and have trouble reading small print or focusing up close, this is usually due to a condition called presbyopia.
  • Presbyopia is due to aging of the lens in the eye.
  • After age 40, the lens of the eye becomes more rigid and does not flex as easily losing its focusing ability and it becomes more difficult to read at close range.

  • This normal aging process of the lens can also be combined with myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism.

What is Astigmatism?

  • Astigmatism is another condition that causes blurred vision, but it is because of the shape of the cornea.
  • Astigmatism usually occurs when the front surface of the eye, the cornea, has an asymmetric curvature.
  • Normally the cornea is smooth and equally curved in all directions, and light entering the cornea is focused equally on all planes, or in all directions. In astigmatism, the front surface of the cornea is curved more in one direction than in another.
  • This results in vision that is much like looking into a distorted, wavy mirror.
  • Usually, astigmatism causes blurred vision at all distances.

What are the risk factors...?

  •  Family history - If parents have one or more refractive errors
  • Advancing age - Presbyopia affects most adults over age 40
  • Reading - If you do a lot of reading you may be at increased risk of myopia

How to improve Eyesight...?

  • Eating carotenoid rich foods such as carrots is good for your vision
  • Dietary intake to get all key vitamins and minerals

  • Getting sufficient sleep is essential

  • Resting eyes after prolonged screen - time is vital

  • Certain eye exercises helps the eye muscles to stay fit too

How Homeopathy helps...?

  • Homeopathy is based on the holistic approach of analyzing and evaluating the symptoms of the mind, physique, genetic predispositions, disease symptoms whereby the patient is individualized and your constitutional remedy is prescribed.
  •  Homeopathic remedies are effective and are completely safe.
  • Homoeopathic remedies are effective for treating myopia also for the prevention of myopia.
  • Homoeopathic treatment prevent further progression of the disease.

  1. Light reflects off objects and travels in a straight line to your eye.
  2. Light passes through the cornea, into the pupil and through the lens.
  3. The cornea and lens bend (refract) the light to focus on the retina.
  4. Photoreceptors on the retina convert the light into electrical impulses.
  5. The electrical impulses pass along the optic nerve to the brain.
  6. The brain processes the signals to create an image.
